Thursday Team (Jack How and Maggie Wood)
For the past ten years, Jack and Maggie have been a vital part of the museum’s Learning Programme, bringing enthusiasm, care and a wonderful sense of humour to every Thursday shift. Originally volunteering at the London Wall site, they chose to continue at London Museum Docklands after its closure which is a testament to their dedication. Together, they create a welcoming and collaborative environment for school groups. Jack’s background as a headteacher and Maggie’s experience in museums complement each other beautifully, allowing them to anticipate the needs of teachers and pupils with ease. Their teamwork is seamless, and their proactive attitude means they often go above and beyond, whether supporting late arrivals, helping with timetables or guiding classes through the museum. They have also played a key role in volunteer recruitment and mentoring, sharing their experiences and supporting new volunteers on their first shifts. Feedback from staff and volunteers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many noting their warmth, generosity and professionalism. As they reach their ten-year milestone, their unwavering commitment and invaluable contribution deserve heartfelt recognition.
