Marsh Award for Business Services Volunteer of the Year

The Marsh Award for Business Services Volunteer of the Year recognises volunteers who make an outstanding contribution to the organisation through business services support. This includes those who assist with administration, finance, and operational tasks, ensuring teams are well supported and Barnardo’s can continue its work as effectively as possible.

John Smee, National Volunteering Team

John has been a volunteer across a range of Barnardo’s services for 12 years, having previously worked for Barnardo’s as a member of staff. He is committed, enthusiastic and determined and always puts the needs of children and young people first. He is approachable and adaptable, always willing to take the time to share his knowledge and experience with new volunteers. John has volunteered in a number of roles and, in 2021, was appointed to the role of Regional Principal Volunteer which led to him chairing the Volunteer Forum and giving a voice to volunteers across the organisation. He has also been involved in volunteer recruitment, branding discussions and in giving his time to support Barnardo’s stores across the North East. He has shown considerable perseverance to maintaining his commitment to Barnardo’s, giving thought to what elements he has time to commit to so that he ensures he is as reliable as possible. John is well-liked by staff and his fellow volunteers and his passion for the organisation is second to none.
