Rare Breeds Survival Trust

The Rare Breeds Survival Trust monitor rare breeds and the threats they face. Their work has meant that since their foundation in 1973, no breed of farm animal has become extinct in the UK.

Rare breeds are an important part of British national heritage and allow for genetic diversity within farm livestock. This means that we have the genetic resources to respond to disease threats among commercial breeds of livestock or to introduce desirable qualities into these breeds in response to changing needs.

Our partnership with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust recognises both professionals and volunteers working to ensure the future of the UK’s native breeds.
