Volunteers Week 2024
03 June, 2024Volunteers’ Week celebrates the contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. Taking place on the first Monday of June every year, it is a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole. This year is also the 40th anniversary of Volunteers Week with it being first established in 1984!
From open days to celebration events, every year hundreds of online and in-person activities take place across the UK to mark Volunteers’ Week and celebrate volunteers. This year Volunteers’ Week also culminates in The Big Help Out, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June, where people across the UK will get the chance to experience a range of volunteer taster sessions.
Through our Grant giving programme, the MCT supports so many charities where volunteers are the backbone of the organisation. Many of the charities supported by the MCT are smaller organisations with the majority of their expenses going towards their work and so volunteer support is essential to the effective functioning of the organisation. Volunteer work can range from administration, support counselling, field work or cooking in community kitchens and each role is as essential as the next.
Through our Awards Programme the MCT is partnered with many organisations across various non-profit sectors that highlight the brilliant work and events put on by dedicated volunteers. We are able to spotlight the teams and individuals using their time to help their communities and those in need. Throughout this week we will be spotlighting some of our current Award winners on our social media and highlight the lengths they go to to support those around them.
In addition, during this week many of our Awards partners will be active, opening Awards nominations so that those benefitted by volunteers can recognise those who have helped them, as well as Awards ceremonies where volunteers are celebrated for the impact they have made. These events will be shared on our social media platforms
