Alexandra Wade 2024

Alexandra took over the London Metropolitan Archives’ Green Group in 2019 and has since rejuvenated its efforts to develop a more sustainable organisation through a range of activities. She sends regular Green Group updates to staff, ensuring that sustainability is always on people’s minds and encouraging staff to put forward new sustainable initiatives to be adopted. Alexandra has implemented several waste reduction initiatives and has shared with the wider ICON network how these have been developed at her organisation as an example of what can be achieved elsewhere. She constantly seeks innovative ways to reduce waste, produce more with fewer resources and share her sustainability efforts with others. When she began, the Green Group was a small voluntary effort at the Archives but Alexandra has turned it into something that has become integral to the culture of the organisation. Sustainability has become a core focus of the organisation’s work, ensuring it remains a priority for future generations of staff and the developing policies that come with her efforts can be an example to other organisations.
