Emma Callaghan 2024

Emma started a degree apprenticeship in Cultural Heritage Conservation in October 2021 at the University of Lincoln, and was posted at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Hartlepool throughout. During her course, she has worked with her tutors to select projects to work on which cover the main learning points of the apprenticeship and also contribute to the wider conservation needs of the museum. Emma’s contributions have included improving the condition of the collection, facilitating access to the collection, supporting academic engagement and increasing conservation advocacy. She has presented masterclass seminars on the conservation of historic objects to other students and has also run workshops for staff at the museum who are not directly involved with the collections, enabling them to gain some conservation knowledge. Emma works closely with staff on a number of important conservation projects and has excelled in every task she has taken on. Her end of apprenticeship assessment will be conducted by ICON and her supervisors are confident that she will also excel here.
