Botanic Gardens Conservation International

Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) is the largest plant conservation network in the world, consisting of 500 botanic gardens in more than 100 countries.

Plants across the world are endangered with many facing extinction. Plant diversity is important as it underpins the functioning of all ecosystems as well as providing us with many direct benefits. Botanic gardens can have an instrumental role in sustaining and promoting plant diversity.

BGCI works with members and other plant conservation organisations, carrying out threat assessments, seed conservation, ecological restoration and plant health and education projects around the world. Our Awards are a way of recognising some of the many committed individuals from within these networks, who help to conserve plants for ecological, social and cultural purposes.
