Canal & River Trust

The Canal and River Trust cares for 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales and promotes their importance for local communities, our heritage and the environment.

Canals are free, open spaces that can be enjoyed by everyone. From boaters, cyclists, adventurers and walkers, to families and schools, the canals and waterways have something to offer everyone.

It is often dedicated volunteers who enable our canals and waterways to be opened to the public, whilst preserving their environmental and historical importance. From acting as towpath rangers and lock-keepers, to volunteering specialist skills or educating schoolchildren, the volunteers recognised through our Awards make a great impact to our waterways.
